Specialized Training Classes
Attention Dance Teams and those desiring to establish Dance Teams...
SONdance will be offering a class especially for you! This class is designed to be an encouragement and support to other Dance Ministries. Our goal is to help train and equip God's people so together we can make His praises glorious.
Come join us and learn choreography to Worship Music currently on many churches' song list. We will be teaching complete dances for you to take back and use in your own church.
Attention Individuals interested in getting Cecchetti Certified...
Classes available for those interested in training in the Cecchetti Method Syllabus. Students will be given the opportunity of being presented for the Cecchetti Graded Exams. Teachers training for certification with the Cecchetti Council of America is also available.

This class is designed for Men and Boys who are confident and bold in their expression of worship. We work a lot with flags and banners of all sizes. We incorporate lifts, flips etc. in our choreography. We use a lot of Promise Keepers music with emphasis on strong movements representing God's power and might.

4-5 yrs. old - "Joy of Movement"
- Introduces the young child to the joy of dance and music in a structured but informal manner.
- Classes are designed to develop rhythm, coordination, grace, motor and social skills, self-confidence a well as physical fitness.
- Our goal is to keep it fun as well as functional, so we use a lot of props, imagery and role-playing.
- Students will be learning simple worship dances that express the joy of being God's children.

6-7 yrs. old - "Pre-Ballet"
- The child is introduced to the basics of Ballet technique and continues movement exploration with greater intensity.
- Class structure greatly advances as barre work is now introduced.
- Students will be developing muscular strength, agility, coordination, good posture, poise, grace, and confidence in who they are in Christ.
- Many new steps are added to this level and combinations become more advanced.
- Students are taught simple worship dances utilizing these combinations.

8-12 yrs. old - "Boys Class"
- This is a class specifically tailored to the special characteristics of young energetic males ages 8-12.
- Keeping movement strong and more masculine (marching, jumps, leaps etc.)
- Students will learn to work with flags, banners and other props (light sabers, armor of God etc.)

Levels 1-3 - "Beginning Ballet"
- Technical Ballet training is introduced and students progress according to their own abilities.
- Classes are more structured and they will begin to learn the spiritual, physical and mental discipline that is necessary to be a "Worship Dancer".
- Basic Ballet Terminology and Theory as well as Bible verses are taught and students are expected to put these to memory.
- A proper understanding of classroom etiquette is taught.
- Correct stance and body alignment are emphasized.
- Student in Level 1 should attend class 1 time a week for 1 year. Students in Level 2-3 should attend 2 times a week for 2 years.

Levels 4-5 - "Intermediate Ballet"
- Cecchetti Grade Syllabus is taught. Serious minded students will be given the option of being "presented" for Cecchetti Graded Exams.
- Much attention is given toward "perfecting" technique.
- Students are required to learn French Ballet Terminology, Ballet and Music Theory, along with Bible memorization. A basic teaching of Anatomy as it relates to dance is also introduced.
- There will be further concentration on correct body placement, alignment and turnout.
- Flexibility becomes a higher priority and students are held accountable for stretching at home.
- Pirouettes, adagio and jumps are added to center combinations, which increase strength, balance, and stamina.
- Notebooks will be issued ($10.00 charge) to aid students in their study.
- Each semester terminology tests will be given and notebooks collected and graded. Students must receive a passing grade before they can progress to the next level.
- Pre-Pointe and Pointe (age 12 and up) work is begun for those meeting basic requirements.
- Students at this level are required to attend class more often. At least 2 times a week for Level 4 and 3-4 times for Level 5 for 2 years each level.
- Classes for these levels are 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hours long.

Levels 6-7 - "Advanced Ballet"
- Students are accepted by invitation only.
- Cecchetti Grade work continues with Advanced Syllabus.
- Students in this level are challenged to work towards their own personal level of excellence.
- Non-Syllabus work for quick study. All exercises, skills, and steps become faster and more complex and must be learned very quickly.
- More attention is given to jumps, leaps and multiple turns.
- Increased length and complexity of combinations.
- Musicality, phrasing, movement dynamics, and individual artistry with greater intensity.
- Extra performing opportunities may be available.
- Additional Pointe work is offered.
- Advanced students may audition for Aroma Ministry Team.

- Jazz is a style of dance adapted to the popular music sound of today. Students learn to move energetically, yet wholesomely. The study of Jazz gives students skills in another dance style in which God can receive glory. It can also be an effective tool of evangelism.
- Students registering for Jazz class must be at least 8 years old. They will be divided into classes according to age and skill level.
- No previous training is required, although a Ballet foundation is strongly recommended.

- Modern Dance is a contemporary dance technique, which promotes dramatic expression.
- The freedom to explore space outside the classical spectrum enriches the students vocabulary of movement enabling the dancer to convey ideas and express inner feelings.
- The blend of Modern Dance and Classical Ballet increases the students repertoire of choreography and enables the student to become more creative and spontaneous in Worship.

- Our Ladies Class is structured for teens and adults who wish to enjoy the artistry and movement of dance and learn to use it as an expression of Worship.
- Students will be taught Worship dances to songs commonly used in todays churches.
- More serious students with previous training or exceptional ability will be considered for advancement to Thursdays class at the discretion of the teacher.
- No previous training is required.

- Aroma is a performing Ministry Team selected by invitation and audition. These students learn a repertoire of dances used to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
- They will be given opportunity to share their faith at schools, churches, senior citizen centers, festivals etc.
- Participation will require extra classes and rehearsals to prepare for these performances.
- Availability is extremely important.
- Team members must have a close personal relationship with the Lord and must maintain a moral standard of excellence as befitting representatives of our Lord and SONdance Ministries.
- Team Members may not study at any other school or perform with any other dance companies unless permission is given by both the Director of Aroma and the Director of SONdance Ministries.
- Dancers will be expected to participate in the set up and strike of equipment before and after each performance.
- There will be an information meeting for those students and parents who are interested in becoming a part of this Ministry Team. Contact Rachel Gustafson for day and time.
